To build a successful Twitter team, it is interesting to take a look at the mix of skill-sets that Vanguard has identified as necessary based nine months of planning before launching their Twitter presence. In all, six key executives are expected to contribute from the following functional backgrounds (1):
The emphasis on economic commentary and investment analysis shows that Vanguard sees Twitter as means to increase the distribution of their research and commentary. However, should issues arise, it is important to note that Vanguard’s Twitter leadership also includes the requisite involvement from retail client service, communications and PR.

I agree with your assessment of the sort of content that a lot of investment firms are utilizing on social media. I would personally like to see a greater focus on educational material and direct portfolio manager commentary as investment management firms move forward with social media.
