Tip 1:  Be authentic – no one is going to want to follow or connect with an Investment Manager who lacks a  personal touch in their social media communications.

Tip 2: Be a source of daily discovery – enable your audience to learn something new each time they connect with you or read your content.

Tip 3: Be consistent in tone – once you begin to establish an audience, maintain a consistent course in the type of language, acronyms and themes you utilize.

Tip 4: Be an enabler of networking – one of the most rewarding aspects for your audience is the opportunity for them to expand their social network. Enable clients and prospects alike to connect to each other and they will always remember that you helped add to their network.

Tip 5: Be focused on a limited number of platforms – social media technology is ever changing. At its worst, social media could feel like its going too fast. Do your research on where your audience is, listen first and then choose 1 – 2 avenues to utilize before taking on too many social media platforms.

So, what are your top 5 social media tips?

Have you taken an active social media presence and learned any valuable lessons or are you still on the sidelines listening?

Ross,
Thanks for pointing out that in fact, many of the tips I outlined are applicable across industries. Investment Managers are just starting to adopt online marketing and social media due to the history of the industry as well as the regulations imposed by FINRA and the SEC. Thanks for the comment and hope to see you back soon!
