According to new research by Pyramis Global Advisors, three lessons have been learned by plan sponsors from the financial crisis have emerged.

For pension plan sponsors, the top three lessons they learned from the financial crisis were:

1. need for more downside protection (62%)
2. improved risk management (54%)
3. better match of assets and liabilities (49%).
